Turning ‘dust to diamonds’ is a favourite phrase of Lynn Tilton, used in speeches when she is describing the turnaround in fortune of MD Helicopters that she has taken a personal interest in.

She sees herself as a supporter of causes, buying companies in trouble (cheaply one would think) and making them tick again (adding significant value should she wish to sell them again). Of course her motives are many, and every company is different. But it isn’t a complicated model, although it is what every financier worth their salt would espouse – buy low, sell high.
