Brazilian Air Force receives first E-99M
Embraer has handed over the first modified Embraer E-99 aircraft on schedule to the Brazilian Air Force (FAB).
Five E-99s (based on the Embraer EMB-145-RS airframe) are being upgraded to the E-99M configuration for AEW&C missions: the first made its maiden test flight in August 2019.
The handover ceremony took place on 27 November at the Embraer facility in Gavião Peixoto, São Paulo State.
The main sensor on the E-99M is a version of the Erieye-ER radar that equips the Saab Global Eye, but adapted to meet specific FAB operational requirements.
Other equipment on the E-99M includes software-defined radios; a new Thales TSC 2030 IFF transponder; and a COMINT suite provided by Elbit Systems (via its Brazilian distributor AEL Sistemas).
In addition, Embraer subsidiary Atech is providing a training suite including a full mission planning simulator.
