Teledyne Gavia to support Danish Navy's Gavia AUV
Teledyne Gavia will support the Danish Navy’s Gavia AUV under an agreement with the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization announced on 24 September.
The company delivered the system to Denmark in 2008 and has recently delivered a spare a Sonar Transponder Module (STM). This module receives and transmits sonar signals, enabling a standard Gavia vehicle to be used as an ASW training target to train sonar operators.
Programmable to emulate different types of realistic submarine target sizes and speeds, the STM consists of a flooded transducer compartment, an electronic compartment and a hydrophone that is towed behind the Gavia AUV.
When not being used with the STM module, the Gavia vehicle can be configured for a variety of other applications including MCM, SAR and REA applications, with the addition of various sensors, navigation or battery modules. The Gavia AUV is a modular system designed for operation from vessels of opportunity with module options including acoustic payloads for ASW training, various side scan sonars, multibeams, camera, and an array of environmental sensors.
