NATO SOF plans for Megacity Operations

NATO special operations forces are actively seeking next-generation technologies to support a future operating environment expected to be dominated by missions in confined, congested and contested megacities.

As an example, speaking to Shephard, sources from across the NATO special operations community in Europe described requirements to exploit technology in order to support subterranean operations. 

Force components, which cannot be revealed due to operational security concerns, are considering the utility of unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) systems with C4ISTAR mission suites capable of mapping underground terrain and providing assault and reconnaissance teams with enhanced situation awareness.
