India moves toward Special Operations Division

The Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has moved a step closer towards the establishment of a dedicated joint Special Operations Division (SOD), defense sources have disclosed to Shephard.

The decision to create a unified command for army, air force and navy special operations forces - which dates back to 2012 - is designed to encourage greater levels in cooperation, interoperability and joint operations between the services.

According to defense sources associated with Indian special operations forces, the government has asked the MoD’s Integrated Defence Staff to finalize details regarding the creation of an SOD as well as Cyber and Space
