Daegu vessel electrification underway
The Republic of Korean Navy’s (ROKN) new Daegu-class vessel is undergoing electrification at the naval base in Jinhae, Changwon of Gyeongnam Province, it was announced on 20 March.
Built by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, the Daegu-class ship is the first vessel of the second batch of the ROKN’s next-generation frigates, commissioned on 6 March. The 2800-ton vessel is scheduled to be deployed in August 2018 after electrification is complete.
Um Hyun-seong, Chief of Naval Operations, ROKN, said: ‘The Daegu vessel... will become the standard for vessels in its class that are introduced later.
‘The vessel should reach the highest degree of combat readiness and become an example for other vessels by clearly defining the exercise goal and the level of wishes, with continuous training and exercise and thorough equipment management.’
