Italy to introduce new naval missile
The Italian Navy is replacing its Otomat Mk2/A anti-ship missile with the Teseo Mk2/E design from MBDA, the manufacturer announced on 17 March.
No details were disclosed about the value of this procurement and the number of missiles to be provided.
‘Teseo Mk2/E will efficiently engage both sea and land targets at very long range, with full mission control throughout the missile flight,’ MBDA noted. ‘The system will have an innovative integrated mission planning and a new RF seeker, with options for additional features and capabilities in the future.’
Platforms to be equipped with the new missile include Bergamini-class FREMM and Horizon-class vessels; the next-generation 10,000t destroyer (known as DDX); and the new Thaon di Revel- class offshore patrol vessels.
