France and Italy sign naval agreement
France and Italy have signed an intergovernmental agreement that reaffirms support for the Naviris joint venture.
Naviris is a 50/50 joint venture of France’s Naval Group and Italy’s Fincantieri, established in January 2020.
The organisation will manage naval projects, including mid-term modernisation of the Franco-Italian Horizon class frigates, common R&D, export opportunities and the development of a European Patrol Corvette.
The newly signed agreement renders the long term alliance launched by these two industrial groups fully operational.
Hervé Guillou and Giuseppe Bono, CEOs of Naval Group and Fincantieri respectively, said: ‘We welcome this intergovernmental agreement, which reinforces our joint-venture Naviris. We are delighted to be able to count on the support of both the Italian and French governments together with the Navies of our two countries to carry out our mission effectively.’
