First Philippine frigate launched
The Philippine Navy’s (PN) most modern warship, the future BRP Jose Rizal, was launched in Ulsan by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) before a high-ranking PN delegation on 23 May.
Carrying the pennant number 150, the type displacing 2,600t is based on HHI’s HDF-3000 multipurpose frigate design. Expected delivery date is 6 September 2020.
On the same day, a keel laying ceremony was held for the second frigate, the future BRP Antonio Luna (151). This warship should be ready by 6 March 2021.
