US ships 60mm mortars to Afghan Army
The US Army’s Watervliet Arsenal in New York has completed the refurbishment of 902 M224 60mm Lightweight Company Mortar Systems for the Afghan National Army (ANA), it has emerged.
The refurbishment was part of the US government’s package to improve the equipment of Afghanistan’s security forces as the US and its allies prepare to end their combat role in the country in 2014.
The arsenal received a $5.9 million contract in February to refurbish the US Army weapons for transfer to the ANA and the contract was finished in September when the last batch of 92 mortars was packed for
