UAE armour upgrade progresses
The UAE’s 135 BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle fleet upgrade is set to be completed in 2016.
Russia’s Kurganmashzavod company has announced nearly half of the IFVs have undergone the upgrade works and that the work is scheduled to finish in the new year.
The BMP-3 upgrade contract was signed at the IDEX-2011 exhibition and is valued at $75.2 million. The testing of the upgraded prototype in UAE has been completed in 2013 and this provided the green light for commencing the production stage of the upgrade.
The original upgrade package, as proposed by Kurganmashzavod, has encompassed 17 separate upgrade
