Qatar increases Russian cooperation with defence purchases
Qatar has purchased Russian-made small arms and anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs) and continues negotiations for the purchase of the Almaz-Antey S-400 Triumph long-range surface-to-air missile system.
News of the arms sales was revealed by the Russian Ambassador in Doha, Hurkhamad Kholov, in front of the Russian state-owned TASS news agency.
According to Kholov, the arms deals are an extension of the agreement for military-technical cooperation between Russia and Qatar that was inked in October 2017, which allows Doha to buy advanced Russian arms, to train its troops and establish links with the Russian secret services.
