MCV to deploy on Honshu
The Japan Ground Self-Defence Force has revealed that its Manoeuvre Combat Vehicle (MCV), which will enter service next year, will replace some of its existing main battle tanks (MBT).
A total of 99 MCVs will be produced in the next five years, and all MBTs currently located on the island of Honshu will retire as the MCV replaces them in armoured units.
Unlike other in-service Japanese MBTs, the MCV lacks an automatic loading system, meaning it requires a four-person crew to operate, one more than the Type 90 and Type 10 MBTs.
The MCV is equipped with a 105mm L/52
