USCG orders 20 RB-S IIs
The US Coast Guard (USCG) has issued an $8 million order to Metal Shark Aluminum Boats for the supply of 20 response boats-small II (RB-S II), the agency announced on 18 January.
The RB-S IIs will be delivered to the USCG station Sector Buffalo, New York, during spring and summer 2018.
The order brings the total number of RB-S IIs ordered to 322 of which 280 have already been delivered.
With a top speed of over 40 knots, the 29ft RB-S IIs can be used for a range of missions, including search and rescue, vessel boarding team deployment and law enforcement missions, drug and migrant interdiction, port security and environmental response operations.
The RB-S II, designed with an emphasis on function and crew comfort, is gradually replacing the coast guard's Defender-class RB-S fleet.
