USCG cutter Joseph Gerczak arrives in Hawaii
The US Coast Guard’s (USCG) base in Honolulu has received its second Sentinel-class cutter, Joseph Gerczak.
Gerczak is the second of three 154ft fast response cutters (FRC) to be stationed in Honolulu. The FRCs will primarily serve the main Hawaiian Islands.
The FRCs feature advanced C4ISR equipment, including the ability to launch and recover standardised small boats from the stern. They will carry out missions including search and rescue; ports, waterways and coastal security; national defence; fisheries enforcement and drug and migrant interdiction.
The USCG received Joseph Gerczak on 9 November, 2017, in Key West, Florida. The crew then transited to Hawaii. The vessel is scheduled to be commissioned on March 9, 2018.
