Upgraded HMS Orädd returned to Swedish service
The first upgraded Tapper-class guard boat has been delivered back to the Swedish navy by Sweden’s FMV procurement agency.
HMS Orädd has undergone a service life extension programme carried out by SwedeShip, which was contracted to upgrade five patrol boats to the new standard.
Improvements include new sonar, remotely-operated vehicles, wiring, main engines, generator sets, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, as well as the rebuild of the jetty.
HMS Orädd is the third of five Type 80 patrols boats that are being converted, and the remaining two vessels are expected to be delivered by 2020.
The ship's main mission is submarine hunting, but can also be used in support of civilian tasks such as maritime traffic control and maritime rescue.
