Maritime focus for new operations centres
Russia is looking to strengthen its maritime security with the establishment of special operations centres in five coastal regions across the country.
The move is part of a recent decree signed by President Vladimir Putin to improve maritime security and counter-terrorism capabilities.
The new operations centres, whose activities will be controlled by the Federal Security Service, will be established in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Simferopol, Murmansk and Kaspiysk.
The centres will be based in areas of strategic maritime importance including the Othotsk Sea, Black Sea, Barents Sea and Caspian Sea.
