Canadian navy sees greater engagement in Asia
Half of Canada’s seaboard fronts onto the Pacific Ocean, yet the country’s military is rarely seen across the other side of the Pacific in Asia. However, the arrival of the frigate HMCS Vancouver in Hong Kong on 3 May as part of a five-month voyage is helping to change that.
Add to that, the dispatch of a Royal Canadian Air Force CP-140 Aurora maritime patrol aircraft to help enforce United Nations sanctions against North Korea. Arriving on 28 April, the aircraft will operate from the US-operated Kadena Air Base on Okinawa in southern Japan.
