Austal has been awarded a $9.93 million contract modification for procurement and engineering services as part of its existing Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) contract with the US Navy, it announced on 25 April.

The modification, which has been awarded in support of scope changes on fiscal 2015 and fiscal 2016 ships, covers additional accommodations to increase the crew size on the Independence-class LCS ships. Austal will provide services, supplies, labour and materials, as well as programme management and subcontracting management. Work is set to complete by August 2019.

The company has delivered three Independence-class LCS to the navy, with one as the prime contractor and two as a subcontractor. It was awarded a $3.5 billion, ten-vessel contract by the navy in 2010, and the programme grew to 13 vessels earlier in 2016.

Austal is currently building seven LCS, with Montgomery scheduled for delivery later in 2016.
