China becomes fourth-largest arms exporter
China has become the world’s fourth largest weapons exporter amid continued growth in international arms sales, according to a new study by Sweden-based think-tank SIPRI.
The total volume of international arms sales has increased by 14% over the five year period from 2009 to 2013, with China emerging as a major player, overtaking France as the world’s fourth largest arms exporter, SIPRI reported on 17 March.
The US, Russia, Germany, China and France were the biggest exporters, representing 74% of the global market, with the US and Russia together accounting for 56% of that total.
