IMDEX Asia: AgustaWestland pitches AW101 to Asian market

AgustaWestland has launched a marketing drive of its AW101 medium multirole helicopter in Asia, with an eye on several opportunities in the region.

In particular, the company has cited Japan, Korea and Taiwan as potential customers for the AW101, with the latter two considering the aircraft for the airborne mine countermeasures (AMCM) role, which was originally developed for the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF).

Speaking to reporters at the IMDEX Asia maritime defence show, Andrew Symonds, AgustaWestland vice president for Asia Pacific, said the company was talking to Japan about a requirement for a shipborne multirole helicopter.
