UAS to weather the storm

Universities in the US have begun looking at how small UAS could be used to predict extreme weather events and double warning times for those living in areas prone to tornados or severe storms.

The proliferation of UAS technology and their gradual integration into commercial airspace is giving both meteorologists and atmospheric physicists a potentially powerful tool that could supplement or even replace traditional methods of forecasting weather.

Currently, researchers use a combination of weather balloons, ground-based Doppler radar and satellites to determine weather patterns.
