Leonardo and RAF partner on swarming drone test
Leonardo and the RAF have successfully completed a swarming drone flight test, the manufacturer announced on 7 October.
The demonstration involved Callen Lenz made drones, equipped with a modified variant of Leonardo's BriteCloud expendable decoy, successfully being used to 'confuse and overwhelm' radars simulating enemy air systems.
The decoy packages were programmed to work collaboratively to 'cause maximum confusion' with radar systems effectively shutout by electronic noise.
Information from the test will be used to inform potential UK swarming drone capability acquisitions.
It has previously stated interest in testing swarming drone technologies from aircraft carriers in a bid to gain additional air power advantages at sea.
