​HAL’S RUAV for Indian services

A long-term requirement for rotary unmanned aerial vehicles for the Indian military is now being addressed by government-owned defence manufacturer Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL).

The new rotary-wing 200kg RUAV200 has been designed for ISR missions with the army and Indian Navy in mind, with the requirements standing at around 20 for the services. ‘The preliminary design of the platform was completed in January, with clearance for a design review still pending,’ Vijainder K Thakur, an independent defence analyst, told Shephard.

The RUAV will have a range of 200km, endurance of 6h, service ceiling of 6,000m, hover ceiling of 5,000m, and
