Elbit Systems has contracted Bagira Switzerland to supply the B-SIM, an arena and image simulator, for its Hermes 900 HFE multi-payload unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), as part of the Swiss UAS 15 programme; it was announced on 15 November.

The B-SIM is part of Elbit Systems' ISTAR Division’s Ground Based Training System (GBTS) that consists of a Mission Simulator (MISIM) and an Operational Procedure Trainer (OPT).

B-SIM uses Bagira’s technology to resemble complex 'live' scenarios and a realistic environment, displaying video in real-life quality and high resolution. B-SIM can handle tens of thousands of entities, large geographical databases, simulate live urban behaviour (pedestrians, road, rail and air traffic), and support accurate sensor models.

The GBTS allows users to save mission training flight hours required using the simulated missions, without degrading the required level of professional training.

'We are very proud that Elbit Systems ISTAR Division has selected us along with the Swiss customer’s approval, as the supplier of this pioneering simulation. It recognises Bagira’s capabilities in providing top end simulators, contributing to the users’ mission readiness,' commented Caesar Stiefel, Bagira Switzerland’s general manager.
