Unmanned Systems 2018: US Army’s SMET stalled
While the US is once again on the brink of a government shutdown, the US Army is warning that programmes like its Squad Multipurpose Equipment Transport (SMET) are suffering due to inaction.
Five months into FY2018, lawmakers have yet to pass the FY18 defence budget and have instead been funding the government with continuing resolutions (CR). The latest CR is set to expire at midnight on 15 February.
But even if another CR is passed, DoD leaders, have grown increasingly vocal about the need for a defence spending bill. Without one, they say programmes like the army’s new SMET are
