UK adds to SF rifle inventory

The UK MoD has placed an order for more L119A2 (C8) assault rifles, which is the carbine variant that is used by the UK’s special forces (SF).

In an announcement on the EU procurement website on 29 November, the UK MoD’s Dismounted Close Combat (DCC) team said it would award Colt Canada a £522,000 contract for additional numbers of L119A2s to supplement the existing inventory under the C8 rifle mid-life improvement project.

This suggests it is around a few hundred rifles and the DCC has said it was ‘to meet the demand of the increased sized fleet’.
