US Special Forces are continuing to collaborate closely with industry to optimise emerging C4ISTAR technologies on the battlefield.

One way this is being explored is through the SOFWERX concept, which was set up in collaboration with Doolittle University in 2015.

Located in Tampa's Ybor City, close to USSOCOM's HQ at MacDill Air Base, the SOFWERX facility's mission centres on the 'collaboration, ideation and facilitation with the best minds of industry, academia and government,' as well as the conduct of rapid prototyping and rapid proof of concepts from ideation discovery.
