The Latvian National Armed Forces (NAF) have received the first 18 Polaris MRZR-2 and Sportsman Big Boss military tactical vehicles, the Latvia Ministry of Defence announced on 19 October.
The vehicles have been procured under the US government’s foreign military sales programme. Under the programme, the NAF expects to receive 44 more military tactical vehicles by the end of 2018.
Ultimately, the NAF will acquire 130 Polaris vehicles of four different types – Sportsman Big Boss, MRZR-2, MRZR-4 and MV850, with the total value of vehicles reaching around €6.8 million ($7.8 million). The agreement between the US and Latvia also include the supply of vehicle parts, engineering support and training.
Raimonds Bergmanis, Defence Minister of Latvia, said: ‘We are delighted that Polaris vehicles are being delivered and will significantly boost the tactical mobility of Latvian armed forces, including the National Guard. This vehicle supply deal is yet another successful cooperation initiative between Latvia and the US.’
