DSA 2018: Philippines activates unified SOF command

The Armed Forces of the Philippines stood up a new integrated joint command, called the AFP Special Operations Command (AFPSOCOM), on 6 April.

Putting them under a single command for the first time, AFPSOCOM combines existing special forces units from the Philippine Army, Philippine Navy (PN), Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) and Philippine Air Force (PAF). As a unified command, it mirrors the US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) to some degree.

Special forces in the Philippines can claim one of the highest operational tempos in the world, with ongoing operations against communist and Islamic insurgents around the country.
