The Belgian Ministry of Defence (MoD) officially inaugurated the Special Operations Regiment (SOR) on 3rd July as part of a wider move to increase the capability of the country’s special operations forces.
In a ceremony attended by the defense minister Steven Vandeput, it was announced the Special Forces Group (SFG); 2nd Commando Battalion; 3rd Parachute Battalion; and 6th Command Information and Systems Group, would be reorganized under the single command of the SOR.
The 2nd Commando Battalion and 3rd Parachute Battalion were previously operating under the command of the Belgian Army Light Brigade ahead of a decision to re-role
