Raytheon to support SM-3 until 2029
Raytheon Missiles and Defense is to provide engineering and product support management, material and services for RIM-161 Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) variants used by the US armed forces and FMS partners.
The Missile Defense Agency awarded a sole-source contract worth up to $722.40 million on 30 October, with work scheduled for completion by October 2029 at Tucson, Arizona and Huntsville, Alabama.
SM-3 is a ship-based SAM designed to intercept short-range ballistic missiles. According to Shephard Defence Insight, to date there have been FMS orders from Germany, Japan and South Korea.
