Newport News joins USN submarine research effort
The Newport News Shipbuilding division of Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) has obtained a $13.43 million research support contract from US Naval Sea Systems Command.
HII will provide engineering and technical design services to support concepts for current and future submarine platforms, using advanced R&D technologies.
Work will include studies to support assessments, development, design studies and tests; on-site engineering, logistics and technical services; and integration of technologies for land-based or at-sea tests and demonstrations.
This contract will be completed by September 2021. However, it includes options which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of the contract to $117.33 million and move the completion date to September 2025.
