Merger possible for Ukraine maritime forces
The Ukrainian Navy and State Border Service could be merged into the State Border Guard Service in a bid to improve maritime security, consolidate assets and free up funds to modernize and regenerate the fleet.
The newly formed agency would be called the Ukrainian Coast Guard and, according to analysts of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, such a move is in acute need in order to cut costs and raise additional funding necessary to reform the country’s maritime security.
