Lockheed Martin to undertake major Aegis integration for USN
Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems has won a $51.87 million contract modification from US Naval Sea Systems Command to exercise options for ship integration and test of the Aegis Weapon System (AWS) for AWS Baselines through to Advanced Capability Build (ACB) 16.
The option covers shipboard integration engineering, test team support, modernisation team engineering support, ballistic missile defence test team support and AWS element assessments.
Specifically, Lockheed Martin will conduct AWS ship integration and test efforts for nine new-build Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyers.
Lockheed Martin will also be involved in major modernisation of seven other vessels in the same class, and the company will additionally conduct integrated combat system modifications and upgrades for all current ships with all AWS Baselines up to and including ACB 16.
Work is scheduled for completion by September 2021.
