India buys and sells torpedoes
India delivered a batch of Shyena advanced lightweight torpedoes to Myanmar in early July, about the same time that the Indian Navy (IN) began looking for heavyweight torpedoes to arms its Kalvari-class submarines.
India signed the aforementioned deal for an undisclosed number of torpedoes for the Myanmar Navy in early 2017, worth $37.9 million. It is India’s first export of these torpedoes.
Lightweight torpedoes can be launched from surface vessels and helicopters, but it is unclear what class of Myanmar warships will carry them.
