Bangladesh Coast Guard to receive new vessels amid expansion
Bangladeshi naval shipbuilder Khulna Shipyard Limited (KSY) launched the first of three large IPVs for the Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) on 23 May.
Sonar Bangla with pennant number P204 was built using Chinese-supplied material packages. It is a variant of the five-ship Padma class of Chinese provenance that KSY built for the Bangladesh Navy in 2013.
The three 300t IPVs are being built under an August 2016 contract valued in excess of $26 million between KSY and the China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Company (CSOC). CSOC supplies the design, material packages and technical assistance.
