Russian Navy’s Alexander Evlanov floated out
The Russian Navy’s new major hydrographic boat (MHB), Alexander Evlanov, has been floated out at the Nizhegorodsky Teplohod Shipyard, the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced on 27 June.
The shipyard is under contract with the Russian MoD to build six MHBs under Project 23040. Alexander Evlanov is the first in the series.
The boat will remain dockside while construction is completed afloat. After testing the vessel will join the Baltic Fleet Hydrographic Service.
Project 23040G vessels have been designed to meet the requirements of the Russian Navy. They will be used for underwater survey and examining navigational hazards at depths of up to 400m, using a single-beam echo depth-sounder at depths of up to 2000m.
The keel for the third and fourth boats of the class, Vladimir Kozitsky and Boris Slobodnik, were laid on 17 May 2018.
