Belgium and Netherlands finalise minehunter decision
The competition to supply the navies of Belgium and the Netherlands with their next generation mine countermeasure (MCM) vessel has been won by Belgium Naval and Robotics.
The €1.1billion ($1.25 billion) tender, issued in the summer of 2018, will see 12 ships (six for each navy) and their unmanned systems delivered over the ten-year period of the contract.
The consortium consists of Naval Group and ECA Group, with the latter supplying surface and sub-surface unmanned systems to destroy mines from a safe distance. This marks a further advance in the trend of using modular systems in this role, allowing for
