The US Department of Defense has elected to exercise an option under a previously awarded contract with Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems for the Airborne Mine Neutralization System (AMNS).

The $7 million contract option covers the production, assembly, test and delivery of low-rate initial production AMNS, along with engineering services and support.

The AMNS is designed to explosively neutralise bottom and moored mines using an expendable mine neutralise device.

The system will be deployed from the US Navy’s MH-60 helicopter as part of the Littoral Combat Ship mine countermeasures mission module.

Work is expected to be completed December 2021.
