Indonesia deploys NASAMS II for capital air defence
Photographs circulating on Indonesian websites depict the ground-based National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System II (NASAMS II) air defence system being readied for deployment in the country.
The pictures show Indonesian military personnel, presumably from the air force (TNI-AU), prepared and arming a NASAMS launcher. It remains unclear when the first NASAMS equipment arrived in Indonesia, however.
It is expected that the first battery will be deployed in Jakarta to protect key infrastructure such as the Istana Negara state palace and Jakarta’s main airport, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
A deal for two batteries had been announced by Kongsberg in October
