Innovate UK funds ASV to research Maritime Autonomous Systems
Innovate UK has given £3 million to ASV, in partnership with nine other commercial and research organisations, to research and develop maritime autonomous systems (MAS), the company announced on 23 March.
ASV will be involved in three separate projects addressing different areas covering the activities concerning MAS. These areas include launch and recovery, autonomous vehicle interaction, operations and regulations and software and communication.
ASV will collaborate with Planet Ocean, NOC and the University of Southampton to develop a launch and recovery system for an UUV from a USV.
The company will use the C-Enduro along with the National Oceanography Centre’s Autosub Long Range to develop an integrated, low-cost, shore-based water column surveying method. Sonardyne and SeeByte are also part of this autonomous surface/sub-surface survey system, which will conduct surveying and monitoring operations for the offshore energy and mining industry.
ASV will work with D-RisQ, Cranfield University and Frazer Nash Consultancy to develop and prove MAS capabilities that address regulatory considerations, collision avoidance and software development.
