Indonesian Navy deploys Sterna
ECA Group’s Sterna is being used by the Indonesian Navy to test the magnetic signature of vessels in order to assess vulnerability against underwater mines and other unfriendly detectors.
Sterna, a UAS-based portable aerial ranging solution, can be used for different type of magnetic measurements performing several runs along the longitudinal axis.
Sterna is based on ECA Group’s airborne UAS IT180, a compact, high-performance mini-UAS VTOL embedding a magnetometer and its digitiser. ECA’s IT180 UAS combined with Sterna system flies over the vessel to measure the ship's magnetic field using a magnetic sensor payload. The data is then analysed and degaussing parameters are computed.
Sterna solution is also able to measure coils effects of a degaussing system.
