Venezuela activates new Special Operations Command
The Venezuelan Armed Forces (FANB) formally activated a new Special Operations Command in Maracay, Aragua State on 17 August.
The new Special Operations Command is a ‘revolutionary concept’, which has been conceived by the Strategic Operational Command of the FANB, according to Gen Vladimir Padrino López, Venezuela’s Minister of Defence.
Coming in the midst of growing domestic political issues, deteriorating economics and unprecedented tensions between Caracas and the US, the reorganisation of the command is aimed at consolidating the so-called special action forces under the same authority which, in the worlds of the minister, comprise the rapid action troops and
