US nixes plan to retire aircraft carrier early
Facing heavy congressional resistance, the Trump administration has cancelled its proposal to send the US Navy’s USS Harry S Truman (CVN-75) aircraft carrier into early retirement.
While visiting the Truman, which is moored at Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia for maintenance and training, Vice President Mike Pence on 30 April announced that the Nimitz-class, nuclear powered ship will not be decommissioned after all.
‘We are keeping the best carrier in the world in the fight,’ Pence told more than 2,000 Truman sailors in a speech captured on video by local news media. ‘We are not retiring the Truman
