UK's Batch 1 OPVs retained as more Type 26 names announced

The UK will retain three Batch 1 River-class OPVs for use by the Royal Navy in national waters, bolstering its maritime security capability as the country faces the uncertainty of its departure from the European Union.

The announcement was made on 22 November by UK Secretary of State for Defence Gavin Williamson, who although a relative newcomer to the role has battled through 2018 against the Treasury to secure funding and much-needed capabilities for the UK’s armed forces.
