Diminished returns for UK equipment
A reduction in platform numbers is a recurring theme in the UK Armed Forces Equipment and Formations publication, with the headline loss being a 37% drop in unmanned systems in its inventory.
The document, published by the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) on 6 July, outlines the number of platforms services have at their disposal. With the withdrawal of the Black Hornet from service this year there were 281 UAS as of 1 April 2017, a 37% reduction from the previous year, with the majority of systems remaining being the Desert Hawk III.
