New joint Hawk squadron heralds mutual benefits for Qatar and UK

The new RAF/QEAF Hawk squadron is bringing major benefits to both parties but especially to the RAF.
Initially announced in October 2020, an expanded defence partnership will see the RAF and Qatar Emiri Air Force (QEAF) establish a joint Hawk training squadron. The new squadron will be stood up at RAF Leeming in Yorkshire in September 2021.
The new squadron will deliver Advanced Jet Training (AJT) to QEAF and RAF pilots and will be home to Qatar’s recently acquired fleet of nine Hawk T2 Mk167 aircraft that BAE Systems is building at Warton in Lancashire.
The joint Hawk squadron follows the formation in July 2018 of a joint Eurofighter Typhoon squadron at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire. Badged as
