Metro Aviation has delivered the first EC145e helicopter to the University of Utah Health AirMed programme, the company announced on 11 September.

Metro Aviation fitted the aircraft with mission-specific gear tailored to hot environments, high altitude conditions and avalanche rescues. The aircraft also features standard air ambulance equipment for mechanical circulatory support and bariatric support.

The new aircraft will replace a Bell 407 helicopter and joins AirMed’s fleet of two PC-12s, three BH 407s and an IFR-equipped EC145.

Frankie Toon, AirMed program manager, University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics, said: ‘We’re excited about the increased capabilities of this aircraft. It will be stationed at our Park City base, so having the increased lift is what we’re most excited about. This aircraft will also give us over-water capabilities, which increases our straight-line distance.’
