SPAES has installed a TETRA radio system with night vision imaging system (NVIS) approval in nine EC135 helicopters for air rescue operations, the company announced on 29 March.

Under work performed for an unnamed customer, the installations were carried out following functional testing using cutomer-supplied equipment including NVIS glasses.

The TETRA system is designed for safe data exchange. When NVIS glasses are used, the display of the TETRA operation unit does not dazzle the pilot and the crew. The co-pilot or the crew operates the tactical radio system to contact the ground staff for communication during operation.

For installation, SPAES introduced a minor change in the EASA Part J21 design organisation.
